Healthcare workers are required to wash or sanitise their hands regularly, and sanitisers and soaps, which don’t have emollients, can be very drying on the skin. Dry, cracked skin can create the risk of infection and increase the risk of transmission to others. The use of an oil-containing lotion or a barrier cream, three times a shift, can substantially protect the hands of vulnerable healthcare workers.
